How to set up the Telkom fibre D-Link router (DSL-G25652DG)

This article is for new Telkom fibre clients who need to configure their D-Link DSL-G2562DG router.


Before setting up your router, Telkom will create a default username and password for your router so that you can log into your router. You can find your router login details at the back or the bottom of your router. This is what you will find:

Username: admin

Password: admin

 

Please note: It is a security risk to leave the default password as admin.

It is highly recommended to set your own unique password. This will be prompted during the quick setup guide.

Follow the below steps to sign into your router

To access your router, connect to it via LAN cable or via WiFi. Once connected to the device, open your web browser and type in 10.0.0.2 (or the default IP located on the back or bottom of the router)
 

Once logged into the web management interface for the first time, the Quick Setup wizard will appear.

Step 1: Select which WAN interface to use

Please select which WAN Interface to use: ADSL, VDSL or Ethernet WAN, this relates to the service that you have ordered so if you are a Telkom client and you have ordered a fibre service then you will select Ethernet WAN. Then click the test button to detect if the hardware interface is connected correctly.

Step 2: PPP Account

It is not necessary to test your PPP account, you can skip this step and Click 'Next'

Step 3: ADSL Clients

This step is for ADSL clients, you will skip this step by clicking the Next button.

Step 4: Username & Password

Please enter your Username and Password as provided by Telkom via SMS and/or email. This would have been sent to you by your ISP via email or sms. NB: The password is case sensitive.
Click 'Next' to continue.

Step 5: Account configuration

It is not necessary to test your account configuration, you can go ahead and click 'next' in this step.

Step 6: 2.4GHz and 5GHZ

This is where you will enter your WiFI Name (SSID 2.4GHz) and your WiFi password (2.4GHz WPA Preshare key) you will then repeat the same process for the 5GHz and once done click Next.

Note: We suggest that you keep the 4GHz and the 5GH in your username so that you can differentiate between the two connections. ex. Home (2.4GHz) and Home (5GHz).

Step 7: Create Admin password

To change or create a new Admin password you will need to use a 15 character password. These details are used to log into your router to as an admin to make changes, e.g. changing your WiFi password. Once you have updated or set your new password click 'next'.

 The Telkom Fibre router setup is now completed.

  • Click 'Back' to review or modify settings
  • Click 'Apply' to apply the current settings
If your internet connection is not stable after you press apply, you can try the Setup Wizard again with alternative settings or use Manual Setup instead.

Your Setup Wizard will reboot and you will be asked to enter your username and password. Once this is done you will be connected to your router and you should now be connected to the internet now. 

Follow the below steps to set your password: 

Once logged in click on Management > Account Management > Passwords. Enter in your old password, your new password and then confirm your password and once done click apply.
