A Guide To Navigating Smooth Fibre-to-the-Business Site Moves

A Guide To Relocating With An Existing Business Fibre Internet Connection

If you're a current Vox Business Fibre or Liquid Fibre customer moving to a new location, this article explains how to relocate your fibre internet connection.

What Is A Business Fibre Site Move?

Moving a business to a new location while keeping its fibre internet service running smoothly is called a "site move." This is especially important because the internet connection is crucial for the business to function properly. To make sure this transition happens smoothly, here's a simple step-by-step process to request to have a business fibre internet connection (FTTB) at the new location:

Business Fibre Site Move Process:

Request Your Business Fibre Site Move:

Contact DSL Telecom if your Business is relocating. Express your interest in a fibre service for your new location. To begin this process we will do the following:

Desktop Feasibility:

  1. Initial Desktop Feasibility/Financial Analysis: DSL Telecom assesses the feasibility of connecting your new location with the same fibre package. We will determine eligibility based on your existing contract and available coverage.
  2. Assessing Contract Value vs. Implementation Cost: Feasibility evaluation compares contract value against implementation cost, determining project feasibility.
  3. Feasibility Result Modifications: Network Operators adjust feasibility outcomes due to unforeseen circumstances, such as extra fees or altered site requirements.
  4. Collaborative Adaptation: Changes affecting pricing or installation lead to collaborative adjustments before project initiation, with client notifications.

Document Completion:

Choose your package and complete the required documents:

Once you have confirmed your package selection we will send you the relevant documents to complete.
  1. Liquid Fibre Customers: We will send you a pre-landlord sign off document along with a customer order form to complete.
  2. Vox Business Fibre Customers: We will send you a customer order form via electronic acceptance to complete and sign.
After submitting your signed COF (Customer Order Form) to Liquid or Vox and securing service approval, the fibre installation project sets in motion.

Service Delivery Manager Is Assigned To Your Business Fibre Site Move:

A dedicated SDM coordinates your project, ensuring smooth communication between you, DSL Telecom, and contractors.

Site Inspection and Planning Document:

The assigned contractor inspects your new premises, creating an installation blueprint. A detailed planning document is generated, This document will be sent to the you and the landlord, who will validate the document contents and sign.

Approvals and Third-Party Action:

Approved planning documents trigger groundwork, including trenching and installations, managed by a third-party contractor. This also includes any wayleaves that need to be approved by the municipality, this can take up to 60 days. You can read more about this here.

Connection and Completion (Vox Business Fibre Customers):

A contractor is dispatched to ensure the fibre point and CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) are seamlessly connected. Once the supplier has completed the build and tested the new fibre line, a handover is completed. Vox will then collect your old router from you and issue you with a new router. This finalises the fibre installation process.

Connection and Completion (Liquid Fibre Customers):

Liquid Fibre Customers: A contractor is dispatched to ensure the fibre point is seamlessly connected and to install the ONT. Once testing has been completed they provide DSL Telecom with a handover document, marking the completion of the installation process. Clients that need to order a router can order a router from DSL Telecom, we will configure the router and courier it to you. If you already have a router then the service handover will be shared with you so that your internal IT team can configure the router onsite.

For buildings with existing fibre and no trenching required, the installation lead time will range from 4 to 8 weeks. Your contract value remains unchanged, even if trenching isn't necessary at the new location.
  1. For Vox Business Fibre clients, the one-time cost shifts from R5500 to R1500 (subject to change) if existing infrastructure is present.
  2. Liquid Business Fibre users incur a once-off cost of R1500 (subject to change).

Business Fibre Installation Lead Times:

Vox Business Fibre Installation Timeframes:

Preferred & Connected Areas (4-8 weeks):
If the building already has fibre inside, installation is quicker, usually between 4 to 8 weeks.

On-Net Area (4-6 months):
If fibre is present but not inside, Vox connects it to your building. This takes longer, about 4 to 6 months, due to trenching and municipal approvals.

Off-Net Area (Up to 4-6 months):
If fibre is available  but not active, Vox builds infrastructure and installs cables. This can also take 4 to 6 months, considering complexities and municipal requirements. These timeframes give you an idea of how long it might take for your Vox Business Fibre installation based on your location's connection status.

Liquid Fibre Installation Timeframes:

Connected Buildings (4-8 weeks):
If your building has existing fibre, the installation happens quickly, typically within 4 to 8 weeks.

On-Net/Standard Area (4-6 months):
When fibre is present but not in your building, Liquid connects it. This process takes longer, around 4 to 6 months, due to trenching, building work, and municipal approvals. These timelines show how long Liquid Fibre installation might take based on your building's current fibre status.

Cancellations for Moving to a New FNO:

Cancellation policies vary based on factors like contract duration, terms, and status. Notice periods differ:
Vox Business Fibre: 3 calendar months' notice.
Liquid Fibre: 60 days' notice.
