What is an internet failover?

An internet failover is a backup internet connection. A secondary source of connectivity that will automatically kick in, should your primary connection go down. With most businesses moving their operations to the cloud, having a backup internet service has become indispensable.

What can cause your internet connection to drop?

Internet connection can drop for a number of reasons, and can occur at any given time. The most common cause for internet connection loss is:

  2. Loadshedding: Not all Fibre network nodes have their own backup power, and those that do face issues during extend loadshedding periods. The batteries don't get enough time to charge, and in return cause an outage.
  3. Network overload: Having too many active users on a line at any given time can cause issues and either start to slow your connection or cause it to drop completely.

If FTTB (Fibre To The Business) is your main connection:
