Vox Fibre installations process and installation costs

Your installation will be scheduled at a time convenient for you and one of Vox's expert teams will come through to your home to provide the fibre from the street into your home.

Here are the next steps for your fibre installation:

1) Site Assessment: A contractor assigned by your FNO will come to your premises to do a site assessment. They will determine if additional external or internal reticulation (cabling/conduit) is required for the installation.

2) Optical network terminal (ONT) installation: The contractor will pull the fibre into your home and install the ONT device if not already present. In some cases the ONT equipment is installed by the same contractor who conducts the site assessment. In other cases a different contractor will be used.

3) Network testing and handover to Vox: The network will remotely test the connection and once testing has passed, the project is handed over to Vox.

4) CPE (Customer premises equipment) installation: Vox will then send a technician to install the fibre router at your home. Once the router is connected, you will be up and running on your new Vox fibre connection.

Installation can take anything between 2 – 4 hours depending on the complexity of getting the fibre cable from the boundary wall to where you want the ONT to be located.

Your fibre line installation time-frame is dependent on the network infrastructure provider, the average installation times is 7 - 21 working days.

You may be charged with the installation cost of the fibre line with your FNO, if your fibre cable length exceeds the standard installation length.

Here is a indication of what the installation costs are across the various FNOs:

Tips for an optimal fibre connection:

        1. Position your Wi-Fi router in the centre of your home.

    2. Cordless phones, baby monitors and microwaves can interfere with the signal so try and keep these out of the way of your signal.

    3. Avoid placing your router on the floor, in a cupboard or near other heat-producing devices. The higher up, the better.

    4. Connect some devices that are stationary to an ethernet cable to enable lag-free gaming, smoother streaming and a more reliable home security network. This dedicates the Wi-Fi performance to your devices ( tablets, phones and laptops ) that move around a lot.

    5. Optimise your network. If you have a large home or an intricate layout, you can install Wi-Fi extenders to give you that extra reach and coverage. Available here: https://shop.vox.co.za/dsltelecom/products/home_wifi_mesh
