LTE | Telkom Uncapped LTE | Why is my speed so slow?

This article is for existing Telkom Uncapped LTE customers who are experiencing a slow LTE speed.


You could be experiencing slow speeds due to your LTE data usage. Telkom reserves the right to apply Fair Usage Policies on the Uncapped LTE account if a customer‘s behaviour is deemed to be affecting the user experience of other customers on the Telkom network.

What is a Fair Usage Policy?

A Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is a policy which is utilised internationally by broadband providers of all types of mobile internet to ensure that every subscriber uses their data in moderation. When subscribers use large amounts of mobile data, other users in the same network can be adversely affected. In order to prevent those few mass-data consumers from eating into the bandwidth of the other users, an internet service provider (ISP) may reduce the users data speed.

Telkom 10Mbps Uncapped LTE FUP: 

  • Up to 100GB of usage, you will be able to access the Telkom LTE network at up to 10Mbps high-speed.
  • After 100GB you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed.
  • Should you use more than 120GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.

Telkom 20Mbps Uncapped LTE FUP: 

  1. Up to 500GB of usage, you will be able to access the network at 20Mbps speed.
  2. After 500GB you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed.
  3. Should you use more than 550GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.

Telkom 30Mbps Uncapped LTE FUP:

  1. Up to 600GB of usage, you will be able to access the network at 30Mbps speed.
  2. After 600GB you will be able to access the network at a standard 4Mbps speed.
  3. Should you use more than 650GB, Telkom will then reduce the speed to 2Mbps.

Steps to view your data usage:

Step 1: Simply download the Telkom App from the Google Playstore or Apple App Store.
Step 2: Switch off your mobile data, and connect your mobile device to your LTE router via Wi-Fi.
Step 3: After a successful connection, open the Telkom App, the LTE data will sync from your SIM to the Telkom App displaying your data usage.

If you have hit your data cap, no stress, simply top up your data and access the Telkom network at normal speeds.
