Why you can't get Vumatel fibre in your complex even though the fibre coverage map says your live.

Why you can't get Vumatel FTTH in your estate even though the fibre coverage map says your live for fibre

This article is for new DSL Telecom customers who would like to know why they can't get Vumatel fibre in their estate/complex

To get fibre internet to your complex, the Body Corporate/Homeowners Association needs to give consent to the fibre provider to install fibre in the complex/estate due to an exclusivity clause signed between the Body Corporate and the fibre network operator to keep the infrastructure clean and neat.

If you want to get fibre in your complex or estate, speak to your Body Corporate/Homeowners association first to find out which network has been installed or is going to be installed before placing an order with Vumatel. This way you avoid placing a Vumatel fibre order because the map says your live and having to restart the process with the FNO that is actually installed or is going to be installed in the complex.

If your Body Corporate/Home Owners Association would like to have VUMA FTTH installed this is how they will be connected:
To provide a sufficient capacity for every unit, VUMA needs to bring the fibre into the complex/estate to a central distribution point to serve the residents. This requires an access build.
Typically access build involves trenching, mounting of fibre trays and laying of cables so that the fibre can be provisioned into the property. The fibre is brought through to a centralised location and connected into a fibre distribution box.

Process of installing the MDU (multi-dwelling unit)

For Vuma to provision fibre into your complex or estate, they require the necessary authorisation and site access from the Body Corporate or Homeowners association as previously mentioned. The process for the installation of the MDU fibre box is as follows:

1: Survey - Vuma will send a representative to perform a survey on how the fibre will be provisioned onto the property. Vuma will determine the least disruptive route and focus on using existing conducts where available.

2: Plans - The plans are then submitted to the Body Corporate/Home Owners Association for approval and recommendation.

3: Kick-off meeting - Once the plans are approved, a meeting will be held with all parties to walk through the fibre installation process and the escalation processes to be followed.

4: Installation - Following the meeting, a start date will be agreed on and the fibre installation will be scheduled and access build to the complex/estate will take place.

5: Sign-off - On completion of the fibre installation a final meeting will be held with the Body Corporate or Home Owners association to evaluate and sign off the work.

The process of installing fibre into your unit once the fibre is in your complex/estate

Once the fibre distribution point has been installed into the complex/estate and the complex/estate is connected to the fibre network, residents can order an in-home fibre installation.

When you are ready to make use of the fibre service, you can place your order with your desired Internet service provider. You can sign up for Telkom Vumatel and Vox Vumatel here: https://www.uncappedfibre.co.za/telkom/vuma

Once your fibre order has been successfully placed with the fibre network operator, the fibre provider will send an installation team out to reticulate the fibre from the fibre distribution box into your unit in your complex/estate.

Check with your Body Corporate/Home Owners Association which FNO is available to you

Just because the fibre coverage map for your address shows that you are live for Vumatel fibre or any other FNO does not mean that the FNO is available in your complex/estate. It is costly to install fibre into a complex so the Body Corporate/Home Owners Association needs to give permission to the fibre provider before the fibre provider can install the fibre distribution box onto the property.

You need to check with your body corporate which fibre service provider has been installed into the complex/estate or which fibre service will be installed into the complex/estate before placing an order with your desired ISP.

In most cases, the fibre team/technician does know that Vumatel fibre is not available in the complex/estate until he comes out to do a site inspection and can then confirm that the fibre is not available within the complex.

If the map says you live for Vumatel fibre but it is not available in your complex/estate then that is due to an exclusivity clause with the Body Corporate/Home Owner Association and the FNO or due to cost.
