This article is for new Telkom LTE customers who want to understand how their first invoice is structured and what each charge means.
Your first Telkom LTE bill can look a little different from what you might expect. This guide explains how Telkom LTE billing works, what appears on each page of your invoice, and what every line item means.
How Telkom LTE billing works
Telkom does not bill you pro-rata for LTE. The data you receive from the day you activate your SIM card until the end of that month is pro-rated and free, so no billing occurs for that period.
For example, if you receive your SIM card on the 15th of February, the data from the 15th of February to the end of February is free. The amount of free data you receive will depend on the date your SIM card was activated.
Your first bill will arrive the following month (March, in this example) and will be debited on the debit date you selected, either the 15th, the 25th, or the last day of the month. If you selected the 5th as your debit date, your first bill will only be debited on the 5th of April, as Telkom bills the 5th in arrears.
If you selected SIM and Device, your first bill will include three charges: your monthly subscription charge, your monthly device charge, and a once-off activation fee of R99. If you selected SIM-only, your first bill will include your monthly subscription charge and the once-off activation fee of R99.
Page 1: Your statement and account summary
The first page of your bill shows your personal details, including your address, account number, and EFT reference number, as well as your account summary. The invoice line in your account summary shows the date of your first invoice and the month it covers.
Page 3: Breakdown of your charges
Page 3 shows the full breakdown of your first month's charges. Here is what each line item means:
Monthly subscription – your LTE plan subscription charge for the month ahead, for example the 10Mbps LTE All Hours Basic plan.
Device subscription fee – the monthly charge for your LTE router or device.
Deal discount – the discount applied to your wireless activation fee.
Wireless activation fee – the once-off wireless activation charge. Together with the deal discount above it, this works out to the once-off R99 activation fee.
Total charges – the total amount for the month, which is the amount that will be debited from your account.
